Privacy Policy

Draft, last updated August 2, 2026. This is a starting point, not legal advice; have it reviewed before you rely on it for App Store submission.

This Privacy Policy explains what information Basketly ("we," "us") collects when you use the Basketly app, and how it's used. Basketly is built to work with as little personal data as possible: there's no account, no sign-in, and your receipt photos never leave your device.

Information we collect

Receipt photos. When you scan a receipt, the photo is processed entirely on your device using Apple's on-device text recognition. The photo itself is never uploaded or sent anywhere.

Receipt text and item data. The text extracted from your receipt, along with the resulting item list, is sent to Anthropic's API to identify items and generate your Basket Score and nutrient breakdown. This is the only step where receipt content leaves your device.

Store name. The name of the store on your receipt may be sent to Logo.dev, a third-party logo lookup service, so we can display that store's logo in the app.

Onboarding preferences and scan history. Any dietary preferences you enter during onboarding, along with your scan history, Basket Scores, and streak/progress data, are stored locally on your device. We don't operate a server that stores this information.

Usage analytics. We use Firebase Analytics (a Google service) to understand how the app is used, for example, which screens are viewed and whether a scan completed successfully. If you submit feedback or a bug report from Settings, the text you write is included with that analytics event so we can act on it.

Camera access. Basketly asks for camera permission solely to scan receipts. We don't access your photo library, location, contacts, or health data.

How we use this information

  • To read and score your grocery receipts and show you your Basket Score and nutrient breakdown.
  • To display store logos alongside your scan history.
  • To understand app usage and fix problems, including issues you report to us directly.

We do not sell your information, and we do not use it for advertising.

Third parties we share data with

  • Anthropic: processes extracted receipt text to identify items and compute nutrition scores. See Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
  • Google (Firebase Analytics): receives anonymized usage events and, where you choose to submit them, feedback or bug report text. See Google's Privacy Policy.
  • Logo.dev: receives the store name from a scanned receipt to return a matching logo image. See Logo.dev's Privacy Policy.
  • Apple: App Store purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple; we don't receive your payment details.

Data retention and deletion

Scan history, scores, and preferences live on your device for as long as you keep the app installed. Deleting the app removes this local data. Anthropic and Firebase retain data according to their own retention policies, linked above.

Children's privacy

Basketly is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected here with an updated date.
